IMG Chapter 408 The Childhood Sweethearts Grow Up

And so, Yang Zekai started learning to make desserts from kindergarten. Although he was too young at first and his desserts were often inedible, after several years of training, he has become quite good at it. And he made some small snacks for Xia Yuan every day without fail, rain or shine.

After being fed by Yang Zekai every day, Xia Yuan had basically gotten used to the taste of the desserts Yang Zekai made, and could no longer eat the desserts bought outside, so he didn’t even think of buying desserts outside anymore.

One was happy to feed the other, and the other was delighted to be fed. The two happily graduated from kindergarten together and went on to attend the same primary school.

However, on this day, Yang Zekai noticed that Xia Yuan seemed to be in low spirits. His usually smiling face was now droopy and he looked a little listless, and his bright eyes were also somewhat dim.

“Yuanyuan, what’s wrong?” Yang Zekai asked worriedly, his eyes fixed on Xia Yuan, as if afraid that the other party was uncomfortable.

“I…” Xia Yuan began softly, but stopped after saying only one word, seemingly struggling with how to say it.

“What exactly happened? Did something happen?” Yang Zekai became even more anxious and uneasy because of Xia Yuan’s hesitant manner.

“I’m fine,” Xia Yuan replied softly.

Yang Zekai frowned slightly, then suddenly remembered the milk pudding he had made that morning. He quickly took it out of his schoolbag and handed it to Xia Yuan, saying, “Yuanyuan, look, I made your favorite pudding today. Try it and see if it’s good!” He knew that Xia Yuan would be happy whenever he saw food.

Sure enough, Xia Yuan’s eyes lit up immediately when he saw the little pudding, but only for a moment, and then the light in his eyes dimmed again.

Something was wrong, it was too abnormal, which made Yang Zekai even more anxious.

“This little pudding is delicious! I just learned how to make it from Mommy. Yuanyuan, you should try it.” Yang Zekai tried his best to attract Xia Yuan’s attention with the little pudding, hoping to cheer him up. He hadn’t missed the light in the other boy’s eyes earlier. The boy seemed happy to see the pudding, but why did he become unhappy afterwards?

Xia Yuan glanced at pudding, then looked away, then couldn’t help but look at pudding again, then looked away again as if remembering something. He did this several times, and even swallowed a few mouthfuls of saliva, clearly looking like he really wanted to eat it but couldn’t.

“Yuanyuan, please tell me what happened.” “Why won’t you even eat your favorite pudding?” Yang Zekai patiently coaxed Xia Yuan.

Xia Yuan’s attention was almost entirely drawn to the little pudding, and he slowly said, “Mommy told me to eat less sweets and not to eat them every day.”

Upon hearing this, Yang Zekai finally breathed a sigh of relief. Oh, so that was how it was. He thought something had happened. As long as nothing was wrong, that was all that matters.

“We haven’t eaten yet, and this pudding isn’t too sweet, so it’s fine to eat some,” Yang Zekai said with a smile.

“Really?” Xia Yuan’s eyes suddenly lit up when he heard this, and he looked at Yang Zekai expectantly.

He was already irresistibly tempted by the aroma of the pudding, his mouth watering, but he forced himself not to look at it when he thought of his mother’s words.

He was a good boy. He should listen to his mother.

“Mn, it’s okay to eat a little bit. I won’t tell Auntie,” Yang Zekai said with a doting smile. He then handed the little pudding to Xia Yuan, carefully opened the box for him, scooped out a spoonful, and brought it to Xia Yuan’s lips.

With Yang Zekai’s assurance, Xia Yuan swallowed the pudding on the spoon in one gulp, savoring it carefully. The sweet taste spread on his tongue, and a satisfied smile appeared on his delicate face.

When Yang Zekai saw Xia Yuan like this, his heart almost melted.

The pudding Yang Zekai brought wasn’t very big, and Xia Yuan finished it quickly. Looking at the empty box, she seemed a little reluctant. “I’ll bring you another one tomorrow,” Yang Zekai said with a smile, reaching out to ruffle Xia Yuan’s soft hair.

“Yes, Brother Xiao Kai is so nice.” Xia Yuan’s smile became even brighter.

Unfortunately, the good times didn’t last long. During class in the afternoon, Yang Zekai noticed that Xia Yuan was once again listlessly slumped on the table, his little brows slightly furrowed, as if he was feeling unwell.

“Yuanyuan, Yuanyuan, what’s wrong?” “Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Yang Zekai asked with concern.

“Brother Xiao Kai, my tooth hurts.” Xia Yuan said with tears in his eyes, covering one cheek with one hand.

“Toothache?” Yang Zekai was startled. He immediately and carefully removed Xia Yuan’s hand from his face, and then gently said, “Open your mouth.”

Xia Yuan obediently opened her mouth, and Yang Zekai peered inside, but couldn’t see anything. However, Xia Yuan was still in pain with tears welling up in her eyes. Yang Zekai panicked and, forgetting about class, hurriedly pulled Xia Yuan up and ran out of the classroom.

“Brother Xiao Kai, where are we going?” Xia Yuan covered one cheek again and asked softly.

“I’ll take you to the school hospital,” Yang Zekai replied anxiously.

The two attended a prestigious private school with well-equipped facilities, including a school hospital, so Yang Zekai took Xia Yuan directly to the school hospital.

“What can I do for you two?” The school doctor, who happened to be on duty, asked gently when he saw Xia Yuan and Yang Zekai.

“School nurse, he has a toothache. Please take a look at him quickly,” Yang Zekai said anxiously.

The school doctor carefully examined Xia Yuan and asked, “Do you usually like to eat sweets? Do you eat a lot?” Xia Yuan nodded. The school doctor looked like he knew it and continued, “Then you should eat less sweets in the future, otherwise all your teeth will rot away and you won’t be able to eat anything.”

When Xia Yuan heard that his teeth were going to rot away and he wouldn’t be able to eat anymore, he was immediately frightened. He quickly covered his mouth with his little hands, his eyes still showing a hint of fear, which made the school doctor laugh.

Upon hearing this, Yang Zekai felt extremely guilty, because he remembered the little pudding he had given Xia Yuan that morning. If he hadn’t given Yuan Yuan that pudding, would Yuan Yuan have stopped having a toothache? Aunt Ming had already told Yuanyuan to eat less sweets, but he still fed Yuanyuan sweets. He deserved to die!

Yang Zekai looked guilty and secretly resolved to give Yuanyuan less sweets in the future.

Yuanyuan loves to eat so much. If we don’t give him sweets, then we can only learn how to cook other foods. That way, Yuanyuan will have other delicious foods and won’t always crave sweets, right?

So when Mother Yang got home from school in the afternoon, she found that her son was actually going to learn to cook. He was not even ten years old. Why was he thinking of cooking?

Other people’s children at this age don’t know anything and just know how to be naughty, but her son is different. He started learning desserts in kindergarten and now he wants to learn cooking. Does her son like this kind of thing?

However, Mother Yang’s doubts were soon answered.

“Mommy, Yuanyuan has cavities, and the doctor said he can’t eat too many sweets anymore. But he loves to eat so much, and he’ll definitely be unhappy if I don’t let him have any. Besides, the ones sold outside aren’t very hygienic, so I want to learn how to make them myself. That way, he’ll have something to eat in the future, and it won’t be unsafe.” Yang Zekai said earnestly, holding a spatula in one hand.

Mother Yang: …

So her son was learning to cook for Yuanyuan? Whose child was this? It felt like she was raising a child for the Xia family.

Mother Yang was devastated. Although her son wasn’t learning to cook for her sake, she still decided to support his decision and found a famous chef to guide him.

The next day, as usual, Yang Zekai and Xia Yuan went to school together. In the classroom, Xia Yuan sat obediently in his seat, his eyes sparkling as he looked at his deskmate Yang Zekai with anticipation, because he remembered that Xiao Kai had said yesterday morning that he would bring him more pudding.

Xia Yuan was filled with reminiscence as he thought about the delicious pudding he had eaten yesterday.

“Brother Xiao Kai, pudding, pudding!” Xia Yuan reminded him impatiently, clearly having forgotten about yesterday’s toothache and now only thinking about pudding.

As he wished, Yang Zekai took out a super large lunchbox from his schoolbag. Xia Yuan’s eyes lit up even more, and he kept staring at the lunchbox, unwilling to look away.

However, when the lunchbox was opened, a look of confusion appeared in Xia Yuan’s eyes.

“Brother Xiao Kai, where’s the pudding?” Xia Yuan looked left and right, but couldn’t find the pudding anywhere in the lunchbox.

“Your tooth hurt yesterday, and the doctor said you can’t eat too many sweets,” Yang Zekai said.

Xia Yuan’s face immediately fell, and the brightness in his eyes dimmed. His pitiful appearance was so endearing that anyone who saw him would feel sorry for him.

“Although there’s no pudding, this is still very delicious. Try it.” Yang Zekai hurriedly handed the lunchbox to Xia Yuan, then picked out a golden egg roll from it and held it to Xia Yuan’s mouth, coaxing him.

Xia Yuan was a little foodie. The smell of the delicious food made him forget about the pudding. He then devoured half of the egg roll in one bite.

“Delicious,” Xia Yuan mumbled, his eyes almost squinting into slits.

After swallowing the egg roll in his mouth, Xia Yuan subconsciously opened his mouth again, waiting for Yang Zekai to feed him. Yang Zekai naturally fed him the remaining egg roll, and neither of them mentioned the pudding again.

This egg roll was made by the chef at Mother Yang’s house, so it naturally tasted very good. However, Yang Zekai felt a little unhappy seeing Xia Yuan eating it with relish. He decided that he must learn cooking skills from the chef in the future and strive to make things even more delicious than the chef’s so that Yuanyuan would like them even more.

It was this idea and decision that led to the emergence of a new master chef, a master chef who belonged only to Xia Yuan!
